Having been welcomed by Judge Ivana Hrdličkova, President of the STL, and Mr François Roux, Head of Defence Office, the 17 Defence Counsel, from nine countries, including Lebanon, and from thirteen different Bar Associations, were able during the two days of training, to familiarise themselves with the applicable law and procedure before the STL, and with the various practical, legal and ethical challenges facing Defence Counsel before the STL.

The lawyers took part in workshops on Defence investigations and attended presentations on Lebanon, telephone evidence, the role of victims before the STL, and legal aid policy. They were also able to have discussions with Counsel assigned to represent the rights and interests of the accused in the Ayyash et al. case and with the liaison officer of the Defence Office in Lebanon.
