Prosecutor Daniel A. Bellemare Meets Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Elias Al-Murr
Beirut, 8 December 2009: Prosecutor Daniel A. Bellemare, accompanied by his Deputy Joyce Tabet and his delegation met today with Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Elias Al-Murr.
Prosecutor Bellemare congratulated Minister Al-Murr on his re-appointment to head the Ministry of Defense and indicated that he was looking forward to continuing the excellent working relations between the Ministry’s departments concerned and his office.
Prosecutor Bellemare expressed his gratitude for the valuable cooperation extended by the Lebanese Army to his office and to his team in Beirut. The Lebanese Armed Forces continue to play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the Tribunals’ personnel in Beirut and the protection of its premises as they did throughout the life of the United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission. This assistance proved essential to the pursuit of the mandate of the Commission and remains crucial to the Tribunal.
