The Office of the Prosecutor and the Lebanese Government
Sign Memorandum of Understanding
 
Leidschendam, 26 June 2009: The Office of the Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the modalities of their cooperation.
 
The MoU was signed on 5 June 2009 by Prosecutor Daniel A. Bellemare, on behalf of the Office of the Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and Lebanese Minister of Justice Ibrahim Najjar, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Lebanon.
 
The MoU was signed in two originals in the three official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon - Arabic, English and French. The three versions are equally authentic.

The MoU is an operational instrument that records the understanding of the parties on how they intend to implement the existing legal obligations stipulated in the Annex to Resolution 1757 (2007) and the Statute of the STL. The MoU spells out the details of the assistance necessary to the fulfillment of the Office of the Prosecutor’s mandate, including the conduct of the investigation.
