Appeals Chamber rules on legality

Leidschendam, 24 October 2012 – The Appeals Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon has unanimously dismissed Defence challenges to the Tribunal's legality.

First international judicial definition of the crime of terrorism

The STL Appeals Chamber issued an interlocutory decision in February 2011 on fifteen legal questions that were submitted by the Pre-Trial Judge after the filing of the indictment in the case of Ayyash et al.. Amongst other subjects the decision defined for the first time in international law the crime of terrorism. It is available in the Tribunal's three official languages.
